by Cassandra Morris | Oct 24, 2024

Welcome, Sun readers! If youโ€™re here after scanning the QR code in my article in the Winnipeg Sun, youโ€™re in the right place for more festive ideas, creative snacks, and a few fun extras to make your Halloween party a frightfully good time.

Today, Iโ€™m excited to share some easy Halloween cocktails, delicious treats, and a crowd-favorite dessert. Whether youโ€™re hosting a big bash or just a small get-together, these ideas will help you create a memorable (and stress-free!) Halloween celebration.

Festive Halloween Cocktails You Can Customize

You donโ€™t need to be a mixologist to serve spooky drinks at your Halloween party. Here are a few easy base recipes you can put a fun twist on for the occasion!

  • Witchโ€™s Brew Punch: Serve a fruity punch in a large bowl or pitcher. Add floating gummy worms and plastic spiders for a spooky spin on my Cranberry Tequila Punch Recipe. Make it kid-friendly by leaving out the alcohol.
  • Blood Red Sangria: My red wine sangria recipe is perfect for Halloween! Add blackberries, oranges, and some creepy garnishes like floating lychee “eyeballs” and serve dark glasses for extra Halloween flair. This drink is not only festive but deliciously refreshing.
  • Spooky Caesar: Give the classic Canadian Caesar cocktail a creepy twist! Rim the glasses with black salt and garnish with green olives, mini pickles, crispy bacon, and a skewer of roasted garlic cloves. Itโ€™s the perfect vampire repellent! Donโ€™t forget a dash of pickle juice to make this Caesar stand out. Itโ€™s always a hit at Halloween parties!

How To Make Witches’ Broomsticks

No Halloween party is complete without some themed snacks, and these cheese and pretzel broomsticks are a fun, festive addition to any Halloween spread. They only take 10 minutes to whip up, making them the perfect last-minute addition to your table.

Ingredients:

  • 12 thin pretzel sticks
  • 6 cheese strings, halved crosswise
  • 12 pieces of chives

Instructions:

  1. Cut the cheese strings in half: Take each cheese string and cut it in half crosswise.
  2. Insert the pretzel stick: Push a pretzel stick about one-third of the way into the cut end of each cheese half.
  3. Fray the cheese: Gently pull apart the loose end of the cheese string to create the look of a broomstick, pulling the strands about two-thirds of the way up, while leaving the section where the pretzel is inserted intact.
  4. Tie with a chive: Wrap a piece of chive around the top of the cheese, just above where the pretzel is inserted, and trim any excess chive with scissors for a neat look.
  5. Serve: Place your broomstick pretzels on a platter and enjoy this fun, Halloween-themed snack!

Pro Tip: These broomsticks also make a great addition to a Halloween-themed charcuterie board. Theyโ€™re festive, fun, and kids love them!
