Thanksgiving is just around the corner for us Canadians, and letโs be honestโit can feel overwhelming. Between roasting the turkey, juggling multiple side dishes, and perfecting desserts, even the most seasoned home cooks can feel the pressure. But donโt stress! This post is here to guide you through planning the perfect Thanksgiving menu, whether youโre hosting a cozy gathering, a big family affair, or looking to switch things up. Each recipe comes with step-by-step instructions, pro-tips, and everything you need to wow your guests while still leaving time for you to relaxโmaybe even with a glass of wine (or two)!
The Appetizers
A great way to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere is by having appetizers ready when guests arrive. They provide an easy icebreaker and something for everyone to gather around. Some of my favorite easy options are Bruschetta, Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Salami Bites. You can serve all three or just pick one! For something a bit more elevated, I recommend a warm appetizer that can be popped in the oven just before serving. My go-to? A festive Cranberry Brie Dipโcranberries instantly make it feel like the holidays! Itโs incredibly easy to make but always leaves a lasting impression.
The Main Event
The first big decision: turkey or ham? Turkey can take most of the day to prepare, but itโs well worth the effort. Plus, itโs not every day you get to enjoy a beautifully roasted turkey! One of the best things about turkey is the leftoversโyou can make fun dishes like Turkey Cranberry Sliders or substitute turkey for chicken in your favorite soup recipe.
If you’re looking for something a bit easier, ham is a fantastic choice. Itโs quicker to prepare, and you can find smaller cuts perfect for more intimate gatherings. Ham also pairs wonderfully with sweet sides like sweet potatoes or citrusy flavors.
If youโve already had your fill of turkey or ham, or just want to try something new, you canโt go wrong with my Juicy Pork Tenderloin or Cranberry Rosemary Chicken. For seafood lovers, my Baked Sesame Ginger Salmon offers a lighter but still satisfying option. And if you want to include a pasta, my Easy Creamy Lemon Pasta (Pasta al Limone) is always a crowd-pleaser!
The Sides
Letโs face it, the sides really make the meal! Whether youโre looking to keep it classic, add some healthier options, or try something new, this list has you covered. I recommend serving at least two or three sides, and donโt forget fresh bunsโtheyโre a must!
